What is Killer, Caretaker?

Killer, Caretaker is a company founded on the idea that all things in the universe must encompass aspects of both the Killer and the Caretaker.

Our company is named after the concept of the Killer and the Caretaker. The Killer and the Caretaker is a representation of the balance between opposites in the universe. Each part (the Killer being one, and the Caretaker being the other) encompasses opposite qualities, characteristics, and perspectives, but each is equally necessary, and they are undoubtedly tied to the another. One cannot, and should not exist without the other. This balance exists all throughout nature and the universe. We have become too disconnected from the natural world in our day to day lives. By striving to find a personal equilibrium between the Killer and the Caretaker, we can reconnect with natural world.

Not all characteristics of the Killer, nor all aspects of the Caretaker should be inherited by the individual. In some cases, favoring the opposing characteristic would be a better option or choice, but no two people are the same, so everyone’s path toward finding a balance will be unique. Characteristics of both are useful and necessary, but those specific aspects will vary from person to person.

Neither the Killer, nor the Caretaker should be considered exclusively positive or exclusively negative. Each simply consist of a group of opposing characteristics, all of which are useful and necessary depending on where you are in life, what your role is in your community, family, or social groups, and what your current situation is. Both the Killer and the Caretaker can result in positive, or negative outcomes, which is why finding a balance between the two is so important. For example, violence can often be looked at as a negative characteristic, but in some situations, violence may serve as a means of protection, and can therefore become a positive characteristic depending on the situation. Furthermore, a characteristic such as ease could be viewed as being entirely positive, but in reality challenges and struggle help us to learn and grow, and consistent ease can lead to a comfortability which could lead to a lack of preparedness for change.

Aspects of the Killer and the Caretaker can be seen all through nature. The natural world embodies a balance between the Killer and the Caretaker. Again, neither should not be considered to be positive or negative, but instead just opposites. Nature provides us with natural resources to sustain life, but throws us curveballs, like hurricanes and draughts. There is night, which always followed by day. Forest fires take away life, but gives opportunity for growth and rebirth. Extreme conditions can challenge life, but in return strengthens life as well. The balance brings cycles, which can be seen all through nature. Water evaporates and is taken away from earth’s water systems, but leads to rainfalls that replenish reserves elsewhere. Nutrients are given to organisms through the food chain and allow organisms to grow and live, but someday they must be returned to the earth through death and decay.

Specific emotions are not typically considered to be unique aspects of the Killer or the Caretaker. The reason being, emotions are generally results of other aspects, and can stem from aspects of both the Killer and the Caretaker. In circumstances where the lines are blurred, it is best to look deeper into the root of the Aspect. What caused the struggle? Is it a new experience that is unfamiliar? Or what is making you so happy? What characteristics of the Killer and the Caretaker are you currently embodying? How you can you keep this balance?

All emotions, whether considered positive or negative, are a necessity. Each positive emotion would not exist without it’s negative counterpart. Furthermore, emotions are a tool for navigating right from wrong, and can help us keep a balance between the Killer and the Caretaker. Emotions can be complex and can stem from multiple sources. For example sadness is experienced from the loss of a loved one, but it is because of the positive relationship, the fond memories, and the loss of that individual that you held so dearly that you feel sadness. Those positive experiences come at the cost of sadness when that individual is lost. It is the balance between the Killer and the Caretaker causing this emotion, not each of them individually. All things exist in balance in the universe. The goal is to find and sustain this equilibrium on a personal level.

Our journey toward finding a balance between the Killer and the Caretaker is never finished. As life continues and our situation and role changes in society, in family, in friend groups, and in our community, so too does the need for certain aspects of the Killer and the Caretaker. Finding an equilibrium allows you to live a healthy, sustainable life, and helps you to RETURN to nature.
